The chair preserves evidence of multiple generations of upholstery. One front wooden caster appears to have been replaced during the chair's working life. Differences in wood, wear, and construction distinguish it from the opposite wheel, which exhibits an enlarged oval axle opening caused by prolonged use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: normal;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: normal;\"\u003eLight-colored wooden reinforcements were added to the front legs at some point during the chair's life. Beneath the most recent upholstery, an older shaped jute element used to form the front edge of the seat was found. It had been cut off and reused during a later reupholstering. Above it was a softer cotton-like layer. Part of the filling consisted of a darker fibrous material, possibly altered by age and long-term use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: normal;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: normal;\"\u003eThe backrest was filled with horsehair and contained an older layer of darkened jute. Numerous square-cut upholstery tacks remained throughout the structure. Multiple tack holes from earlier upholstery work were visible in the frame.
