Beneath the most recent upholstery, an older shaped jute element used to form the front edge of the seat was found. It had been cut off and reused during a later reupholstering. Above it was a softer cotton-like layer. Based on the digital model, the seat was laser cut and elevated on acrylic cubes above the spring system. The acrylic seat was positioned higher than the original upholstery, reducing the load carried by the springs and rope supports, which no longer retain the original jute webbing beneath them. The springs remain active and compress when the chair is in use, while the acrylic panel bends slightly under load.
